We are the Quantum Samurai FIRST team 1601. We are Aviation High School’s award winning Robotics team, and we would love to share with you more about our unique team, and the organization of FIRST. Our team provides an educational and fun environment for all our members, as they learn to not only to build a robot, but also to work as a team to get a task done. In six weeks, our team of approximately 120 members works together, against the clock, in order to build a fully functioning robot.

 

            Although the robot is a big part of what we do, that’s not what our team is about. Our different branches that compose our team work together as a single unit to make sure the season runs smoothly. Whether it’s filing paper work, building the robot, taking pictures, or simply decorating our school’s hallways, it is not considered any less important than the other branches. When we’re not building a robot, you’ll usually find us volunteering in community events such as park cleanups and tree plantings.

 

           We also have our on-going global community service project; Project H2O. Project Delivering Help 2 Others, is a student-initiated project in which we raise awareness of the water crisis going on around the world, while also fundraising in order to be able to afford water purifiers to send to countries in need of help. This year, we were able to purchase one water purifier from AquaSun, in which we will be sending to an orphanage in Zimbabwe.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is a non-profit organization, founded by Dean Kamen, that encourages young students to challenge their minds and go beyond their evident borders. It encourages students to think outside the box, while preparing them for the future as successful leaders. We have mentioned briefly some of the activities our team is involved in.
